A Message to Our Visitors
As we look ahead to 30th May 2026, we would like to share that Gloucester City Council will be stepping away from the day-to-day running of Blackfriars Priory. This means that our Sunday open days, along with venue bookings, will come to an end at the close of May. While this marks the end of an important chapter in the Priory’s story, the deep affection for this remarkable place, shared by visitors, couples and staff alike, remains constant.
At present, the future of Blackfriars Priory beyond May 2026 is unknown. In the months ahead, we will continue to open the Priory on Sundays and are taking bookings up until the end of May. We would be honoured to welcome as many people as possible during this time. Thank you to everyone who has supported, celebrated and cherished Blackfriars Priory over the years. Whatever lies ahead, its history, beauty and the memories made here will always endure.

Welcome to Blackfriars Priory, a Multi-Award Winning Venue in the Heart of Gloucester City.
Blackfriars is a stunning example of a 13th century medieval Priory site, nestled at the heart of the waterside City of Gloucester.
Recently crowned as an International Wedding Award 2021 winner, Matrimony Awards 2022 Winner of Best Barn Venue (Exclusive Use) and named as one of Gloucester three top landmarks in 2020 and 2021, the Priory is truly one of a kind. Following renovations, the beautiful historic fabric has been retained and complimented with contemporary design with features such as a full glass wall overlooking the ancient ruin. You can now experience the beauty of this scheduled monument, including the private courtyard garden, the magnificent scale of the original scissor-braced roof and the Scriptorium, the oldest and most well preserved, medieval library in Britain. Whether you are booking a wedding, a party or a guided tour, Blackfriars will be the perfect backdrop to make lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

The North Range
With its full glass wall overlooking the ancient ruin, towering scissor-braced ceiling and captivating stonework, the North Range is a magnificent space with a real ‘wow’ factor. With space for up to 150 seated guests or 250 for a party and dancing, The North Range is perfect for an event that will wow your guests.
The Upper East Range
Featuring a scissor braced roof, fascinating chimney stack and ancient stonework, the east range is perfect for smaller gatherings. Whether it be an intimate wedding, private dining with your closest family and friends or a corporate meeting, we can accommodate up to 80 people in a theatre layout or 50 seated guests.
