Gloucester History Festival - Saturday 2 - Sunday 17 September 2023

The autumn Gloucester History Festival is back with over 200 fascinating tours, exhibitions and events for history-lovers everywhere. Join over 100 of Britain’s top historians for nine days of intriguing and entertaining talks at the magical Blackfriars Priory between Saturday 9 - Sunday 17 September. 

Bestselling BBC1 historian Janina Ramirez spearheads the Festival supported by festival patrons David Olusoga and Bettany Hughes, star of Channel 4’s Treasures of the World. Michael Wood explores the Dark Ages, Tracy Borman sheds new light on Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I, Tom Holland takes us to Ancient Rome and Alison Weir uncovers Henry VIII. Jeremy Bowen analyses the modern Middle East, Gary Younge discusses his book Dispatches from the Black Diaspora whilst James Naughtie delves into 21st century America and Gavin Esler puts Westminster under the microscope.
