Top Tip

If you’re thinking about preserving your bouquet, make sure you look into this well in advance, so you know how to look after it and what steps to take to keep it at its best.

Flower preservation specialists can get booked up quickly, so contact them as soon as possible, so you don’t miss out.

1. Hang the Flowers Upside Down to Air Dry

A simple way to preserve your wedding bouquet is to let it air dry.

  • Remove any excess foliage from flowers and cut stems to the length of your preference - This should be no shorter than six inches.

  • To help the flowers retain their colour during the drying process, take them away from sunlight as soon as they are cut.

  • The flowers can be hung individually or stems can be tied together to hang as a bouquet.

  • Find a dark, dry area with good circulation, such as a cupboard under the stairs.

  • Secure the bottom of the flowers’ stems so that they can hang upside down to dry - A coat hanger works well.

  • Leave flowers for two to three weeks until completely dry.

  • Remove flowers from the hangers and spray with unscented hairspray for protection.

2. Press the Flowers

If you want to keep your bouquet in it’s original shape, this may not be the option for you but if you’re happy to have the flowers flat and have fun with creating a framed design, then it could be the perfect project.

  • Place your flowers between two sheets of paper - grease proof paper is ideal, so they lift easily after pressing.

  • Pop them inside a book and weight down further - more heavy books will do.

  • Leave until they are dry - Approximately two weeks.

Once they are dry, there are so many options for you to consider but we do love a framed display.

3. Have Them Turned in a 3D Framed Display

Professional companies like Infinity Flowers preserve your flowers using special drying techniques and frame them in a 3D representation of your bouquet. This method keeps the colour and shape of your flowers, providing a beautiful keepsake from your special day.

If this is something you are considering, you will need to book it in advance - Not only is this to make sure your bouquet reaches the preservation specialist in the best possible condition but also the companies can get booked up quickly and often limit the number of bookings they take each week.

4. Have Them Put Into a Paperweight

Companies like Flowers Forever can turn flowers from your bouquet into beautiful floral paperweights. This can be an ideal option for a keepsake that can be displayed around your home for a reminder of your big day, or even a meaningful gift for your bridal party or closest family members.

For flowers to be placed into a paperweight, they have to undergo a resin process using a clear polyester resin. The resin that is used has a UV filter to help prevent fading and it also provides a clear glass-like look.

5. Wear Your Flowers with Personalised Jewellery

There are many companies like Magenta Flowers, who can preserve your wedding flowers by hand-making a piece of jewellery that you will be able to keep forever.

Keep memories of your big day close to your heart in a necklace, or perhaps you would prefer earrings or a bracelet. Alternatively, you could even have a new charm made for the bracelet that you already love.

This option gives you the opportunity to spruce up your existing jewellery collection or it could be the perfect addition to the jewellery that you wore on your big day.
